The Scripts founded in the two oldest temples dated the history of this village in 12th century. The two temples are important landmarks of Anniyur. The Vishnu temple was built by the minister of Krishna Devaraya and the Shiva temple built by the pallavas.Thiru.Patchiyappa Mudaliyar is the first president of this village. During his time Anniyur grows significantly. He also served as the Secretary to the Farmers Co.Operative Society. During 1960s hand looms making is the primary work of people in Anniyur. Most of the workers later move to towns for good earnings. The Murugan Temple Festival is 60 years old grant festival of Anniyur.

Anniyur is the oldest village in Viluppuram district of Tamil Nadu. Here more than 15,000 people are living now. Anniyur is the one of the well-known village for its rich cultural icons. The peoples in this village most are farmers. Farming is the main industry in Anniyur village. The Villupuram district is the second largest district of the state Tamil Nadu. And the second largest bus terminus next to one in the C.M.B.T.Anniyur is well connected with the nearest cities Villupuram, Gingee and Thirukovilur. Anniyur has a WELL-equipped government hospital.

Two oldest big temples for lord Shiva and Vishnu are also famous things here. Every year murugan temple festival is famous one. To reach here you come on Viluppuram to Tiruvannamalai road 20 km from the city.
